Carolinas Housing Organizations Award $20,000 in Scholarships to 17 Students Across North Carolina and South Carolina

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - August 2026 - The Carolinas Council of Housing Redevelopment & Codes Officials (CCHRCO) proudly recognized outstanding students from housing authority communities across North Carolina and South Carolina for their academic achievement and pursuit of higher education during the President's Banquet at the 2026 CCHRCO Annual Conference in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Through scholarship programs supported by the Southeastern Regional Council of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (SERC-NAHRO), the CCHRCO/Triangle Community Foundation Endowment Fund, the NCHADA Memorial Mark Arrowood Scholarship, and the Eastern Carolina Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (ECAHRO) Anthony Goodson Jr. Scholarship, a total of 18 scholarship awards totaling $20,000 were awarded, benefiting 17 students connected to housing authorities across the Carolinas.

"Scholarships are one of the most meaningful ways our housing organizations can invest in the next generation," said Veronica Revels, CCHRCO President. "Our work extends beyond providing affordable housing. It is also about creating pathways to opportunity, encouraging educational achievement, and helping young people see what is possible for their futures. We are incredibly proud of each of these students."

ECAHRO Anthony Goodson Jr. Scholarship Recipients

In addition to the CCHRCO, SERC and NCHADA scholarship awards, the Eastern Carolina Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (ECAHRO) awarded three $1,500 Anthony Goodson Jr. Scholarships in 2026.

The Anthony Goodson Jr. Scholarship supports the educational pursuits of residents of publicly assisted housing as they continue their education at accredited colleges, universities, technical schools and other institutions of higher education.

The 2026 recipients are:

Altogether, the scholarship programs recognized 17 students with 18 awards totaling $20,000.

The students represent housing authority communities served by the Gaffney Housing Authority, Mullins Housing Authority, Newberry Housing Authority, Columbia Housing Authority, Greer Housing Authority, Kinston Housing Authority, Housing Authority of the City of High Point, Laurinburg Housing Authority, and Housing Authority of the City of Goldsboro.

CCHRCO recognizes not only the students, but also the Housing Authority Executive Directors, commissioners, staff members, families, mentors, community partners, and supporters who have encouraged these young people throughout their educational journeys.

"These scholarships represent much more than financial assistance," Revels added. "They represent an investment in potential and a commitment to ensuring that the families we serve have opportunities to grow, achieve, and thrive. When we invest in education, we invest in stronger families and stronger communities."

The students will pursue their educational goals at institutions throughout North Carolina, South Carolina and beyond, including the University of South Carolina, Coastal Carolina University, Denmark Technical College, North Carolina Central University, Lander University, Morgan State University, Guilford Technical Community College, Fayetteville State University, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Winston-Salem State University, and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
